Description of Error:
When attempting to restore data from a backup the following error appears:
Error Restoring - Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.
Cause of Error:
The general cause of this error is that another program or user that is currently connected to the ESC database that you are attempting to restore.
Resolution:
A database restore should be performed from the server computer. If you're not there already, you'll want to go to the server and verify that no one else is logged into the same database by clicking Help → About → Current Users. This will display a screen showing the name of all computers (not users) that are currently logged into the database. If this list shows any computer other than the server you are working on, have that user close the Electronic Service Control program on their computer.
Next close all programs on the computer you are working on except for a single copy of ESC.
Make sure to stop the ESC Connections Server services. This can be done by going to Start → All Programs → dESCO → Stop ESC Connections Server. (On Windows 8 or higher, go to the Start screen and type in "Stop ESC Connections Server" and select the icon that appears. This should stop the connected services. You may now proceed to restore a backup to the database.
