Automatic Backups by SQL Backup Master

SQL Backup Master is a utility that will help manage your backup and restore functions. What’s even better is that it offers integration with cloud services. Gone are the days of backing up locally and then having to manually copy and paste a backup into an external drive or network drive.

 

Here’s how to make it work for you.

1. First-things-first, head over to their website and download the software: http://www.sqlbackupmaster.com.
2. When you get to their website, click on the Download button on their navigation bar.
3. On the following page, beneath "Off-Site SQL Server backups made simple – and FREE!" Click on Download Now.
4. Save this file to your computer and then install the program.
5. Launch the SQL Backup Master program.
6. Click on Create new database backup, this will launch the Database Backup Editor.
   
   
   
   
7. In the upper-left corner of the window, beneath Source, click the Choose SQL Server… button.
   
   
   
   
8. In the following screen, below Server name you need to designate your SQL Server Instance. You elect to type in the exact instance or you may select your instance by clicking the drop-down arrow to the right of the Server name box.
   
   
   
   Note: dESCO provides Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition as a complimentary download on our support page. We configure this installation to use the named instance of ESC. If a different instance name was used during the installation of Microsoft SQL Server, then use that name instead.
9. Next select and enter the following information:
        Connect using the following SQL Server Account:
        Username: sa
        Password: !dESCO?2010
10. Now, click on Test SQL Connection. If you receive a message indicating the SQL Server connection test was successful, click OK. Otherwise re-enter the correct information from the, above, instruction or enter your unique SQL Server information.
    
    
    
    
11. Before we proceed to the next step, you should now be back at the Database Backup Editor. Beneath the Source section on the left side of the window, select the database in the list below.
    
    
    
    
12. Next we need to tell SQL Backup Master where we want to back-up our database. Top middle of the Database Backup Editor window, beneath Destinations, click on Add.
    
    
    
    
13. At no cost, you may use a local or Network Folder, FTP Server, or a Dropbox account. For this tutorial we will use the Local or Network Folder option. Click on the option you want to use then click Select.
    
    
    
    
14. If you selected the Local or Network Folder option, you will now need to click Browse and select a folder. You may be required to fill out the Optional settings. Once you have selected the folder, click OK.
    ATTENTION MICROSOFT OneDrive USERS: You may designate your folder as the OneDrive folder on your computer. Thus, enabling you to have an automated backup that simultaneously backs up to their cloud services. Double win!
15. Now that you’ve designated a SQL database to back-up and a folder to send that file, we need to schedule exactly when the back-up routine will take place. In the lower-right portion of the window, in the Configuration section, click the blue text for Not scheduled.
    
    
    
    
16. Check the Full Backup box, designate a Start date/time, and then check the boxes for the Days of week that you wish to run the backup. When you are done, click Save.
