Upgrade to Version 15

Welcome to ESC Version 15!

Before you upgrade, there's just a few things you need to be aware of:

  • The latest versions of Microsoft SQL Server and ESC are not compatible with Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.  You'll want to make sure you're running Windows Vista or higher.
  • If you are currently using ESC Version 9.0 or older, please contact our Support team for assistance in upgrading to Version 15.  Only ESC Version 9.01 and higher can upgrade directly to Version 15.
  • The ESC Mobile Tech and ESC Mobile Manager apps are not version dependent and do not need to be upgraded at the same time. However, we do recommend that you check your device for pending updates in order to stay up to date with the latest app releases.
  • Sage 50 Customers: Version 15 is only confirmed compatible with Sage 50 2014 - 2016.
    • Use of earlier or later editions, of Sage 50, beyond confirmed versions are NOT guaranteed to work, use at your own risk.

Now you're ready to upgrade!

STEP 1: Backup Your Data to a New Location

The first step in performing an upgrade is to go to your server computer and make a backup from within ESC.

  1. Have all users log out of the ESC database.  You can ensure all users are out by logging into ESC and going to Help → About → Current Users.
  2. On your server, open Windows Explorer and navigate to your C: drive.
  3. Select the New Folder option to create a new directory in the C: drive.

  4. Type ESC15 as the folder name and press Enter. This is where you will store the backup.
  5. Logon to ESC using the ADMIN account and go to File → Backup You Data.
  6. Type C:\ESC15 then click Backup to begin the process. This can take anywhere from a couple of seconds to a few hours depending on the size of your database.

STEP 2: Uninstall current version of ESC

Before ESC can be upgraded, you must uninstall the current version.  This is completely safe and will not affect your data at all.

  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Click Electronic Service Control and then click Uninstall on the toolbar.
  5. Repeat the previous step for the ESC Connections Server.

STEP 3: Install ESC and Convert Your Database

You will now install ESC Version 15 on your server and convert the database to work with it.

  1. Exit all programs on the computer.
  2. Click the button below to download the installation package - ESC Client Only Setup 15.exe.

  3. When the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the downloaded file.
  4. Accept all the defaults as you go through the wizard. You do not need to do anything during the course of the wizard other than click the Next button and accept the license agreement.
  5. Click the Finish button at the end of the wizard to launch ESC.
  6. Logon using the ADMIN account to begin the conversion. This could take several minutes depending on the size of your database and the speed of your computer.

STEP 4: Install the Connections Server

  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Click the button below to download the installation package - ESC Connections Server Setup 15.exe.

  3. When the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the downloaded file.
  4. Accept all the defaults as you go through the wizard. You do not need to do anything during the course of the wizard other than click the Next button.
  5. You may close the install wizard once the installation is complete.

STEP 5: Install the Accounting Server (optional)

If you are integrating with QuickBooks or Sage 50 and are using an Accounting Server that shows version 13.0.1 or lower, you will need to upgrade to the latest version.

To install the Accounting Server:

  1. Close any open programs, including ESC.
  2. Click the button below to download the installation package - ESC Accounting Server Install.exe.

  3. When the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the downloaded file.
  4. Accept all the defaults as you go through the wizard. You do not need to do anything during the course of the wizard other than click the Next button.
  5. Run the ESC Accounting Server by going to the Windows Start screen/menu and search for "ESC Accounting Server".  Click on the icon that appears.
  6. The ESC Accounting Server will remember your previous settings so you can connect it normally at this point. Nothing special needs to be done to your accounting software.

STEP 6:  Upgrade ESC on your Workstations

Now that the server installation is complete, it is time to update ESC on your workstations. To do this you must first uninstall the existing version of the software. This is completely safe and no data will be lost in the process.

  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Click Electronic Service Control and then click Uninstall on the toolbar.
  5. Once the uninstall is complete, you can exit the Programs and Features screen.
  6. Click the button below to download the installation package - ESC Client Only Setup 15.exe. Save the file somewhere you can find it easily. You will need this file on each workstation, so if you can save it to a shared network directory or a flash drive you can access it from there instead of having to download it on each computer.

  7. When the download is complete, start the installation by double-clicking the downloaded file.
  8. Accept all the defaults as you go through the installation wizard. You do not need to do anything during the course of the wizard other than click the Next button and accept the license agreement.
  9. Click the Finish button at the end of the wizard to launch ESC.
  10. ESC will remember your previous settings, so just login normally.

Congratulations!  You have successfully completed the upgrade to Version 15!
