Tech skill and related service request codes
Scott,
ESC allows you to set a skill code for a technician. Service request codes can also have a skill code requirement.
Does this actually do anything, or is it one of those things that someone put in because it could be useful "some day".
Some of the other discussions reminded me of these fields.

Hey Rick!

I certainly does something, we just don't hear to much about people using it. I could probably count on one hand how many times I've ever heard someone bring it up in almost five years.
When you are on a Dispatch, go the Schedule tab and click Add Technician. This will bring up a list of your Crews and Technicians.
One of the columns is called Skill. Which you can sort by clicking with your mouse. And then, in the bottom, left you'll see Skill Required, which comes from the highest Service Request Codes required skill.
So in the example below, you'll see I am working with a Dispatch that has a Required Skill of 4, and I sorted all my technicians to show which are my "top" skill level technicians.
Beyond that, I noticed that in Dispatch > Reports, there is an Add Filter in the Tech Hours for Dispatch Skill Level. So there's also that extra filter. But not a whole lot else going on with that feature.
Ok, I'll look into it a bit more. I think they should have let us work with bits, 8 bit binary, or 2 digit hex. Or check boxes may be easier for those that don't speak binary or hex.
I say that because it's not a linear operation in most industries, which is probably why it's not used much. For instance, we do:
Locksmithing
Safe and vault
Alarms
Access Control
CCTV
IP Video
etc.
If I can only set a linear value, 1-6, it implies that everyone that does CCTV also does access control, and alarms, and safes, etc. Which is rarely true.
Would be very nice if we could restrict the scheduling of a dispatch based on skill. For instance, level 4 is required but the tech my dispatcher is trying to schedule this for is only a 3. A message pops up and says, "Tech does not have enough skill" or something.
