Inventory selling and pricing

We have some vendors the sell us our piping in joint price and other that sell per foot price. So when we accept orders in if we do not watch we do not get the inventory level correct. Also when costing to a job it is throwing our inventory off. Does anyone have any suggestions to help us keep from making the mistake on inventory and costing to jobs?
